We are delighted to host our first outdoor classical fundraiser with the fabulous Regent Quartet. The concert is a fundraiser to support the work of three local charities – Cranleigh Arts (Reg Charity: 284186), PTSD Resolution (Reg Charity: 1133188) and Chance for Nepal (Reg Charity 1118708)

Please note that the concert will be help at a private residence in Ewhurst. Location: Upper House, Ewhurst Green GU6 7RS

Do bring your own blankets and deck chairs along with something tasty to nibble and fizzy to sip. Picnics are actively encouraged!

The Regent Quartet

The Regent Quartet was formed during studies at the Royal Academy of Music 15 years ago. The Quartet won the Academy’s prestigious JB McEwan prize for the best string quartet in their final year.

Recent performances include the UK premier of Jeanne Zaidel Rudolf’s ‘Masada’ for String Quartet and Bassoon at Senate House, London, a tour for Scottish tenor John Innes with concerts at the Cambridge Corn Exchange and the Worthing Pavilion, recitals at the National Portrait Gallery, a concert of Schubert’s chamber music at the Brighton Festival, performance of early Beethoven chamber music for the London Beethoven Society, recitals for the Hampstead and Highgate Festival, concert at the Cambridge Summer Music Festival, The Moulton Village Festival and The Ealing Festival of Music and the Arts.

Members:

Caryn
Cohen (Violin)

Born in South Africa, Caryn studied with Jean Harvey & Lydia Mordkovitch at the Royal Academy of Music. Prizes awarded there included the JC Wyse bequest and a place in the World Youth Orchestra. She currently combines a busy schedule of Regent Quartet performances, freelance orchestral playing and educational work, and coaches several talented young chamber groups.

She has worked with many famous names including Itzhak Perlman, Joshua Bell, Maxim Vengerov and Luciano Pavarotti. Concerto performances include Mendelssohn, Bruch & Bach with the Cape Town Philharmonic orchestra. Commercial work includes videos for Vanessa Mae & Gabrielle, and a Beatles tribute album.

Emma Martin (Violin)

Emma studied the violin at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. As well as playing with the Regent Quartet, she has a busy freelance career, playing with the Philharmonia Orchestra, the London Philharmonic Orchestra and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. 

 She has worked with Russell Watson, Lesley Garrett, The Opera Babes, Mika, Luciano Pavarotti Tony Hadley and many more. She played with the London Philharmonic in their recording of “The Lord of the Rings” soundtrack.

Sarah Turner (Viola)

Having graduated with a degree in Music at Exeter University where she led the University Symphony Orchestra, Sarah completed her music studies at the Royal Academy of Music under John White. She came second place in both viola competitions whilst studying at the Royal Academy, (the Theodore Holland and Max Gilbert annual viola competitions). 

 Currently, Sarah divides her time between performing with the Quartet; recording & TV work, including the video for the McFly single “All About You”, freelancing with London Orchestras and coaching & teaching a variety of students.

Verity Simmons (Cello)

Verity Simmons studied cello with Louise Hopkins at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama where she received the Libotton cello prize and the Deutsche Bank Pyramid Award for her theatre company Fervour. 

 Verity has worked extensively on West End shows, holding chairs on Evita, Funny Girl and Big Fish. She has regularly performed on other shows including An American In Paris, Kinky Boots, Company, Aladdin and Les Miserables. 

 As a freelancer Verity works with orchestras including Royal Ballet Sinfonia, English Touring Opera – including principal, The Novello Orchestra and Army of Generals. She has recorded and toured with various artists, most recently Father John Misty, Bears Den, Ellie Goulding, Jess Glynne and Sophie Ellis Bextor.
